Pitchfork's Soundplay Introduces Passion Pit Game

Pitchfork's Soundplay is an interactive program focused on the intersections of music, gaming, and technology. In conjunction with Intel, Pitchfork has commissioned some of the most innovative game developers working today to create new, original games inspired by songs we love. These games don't just use music as a soundtrack; their scenes, characters, and settings are all driven by the song. Soundplay's games were produced by our partners at the video games art and culture magazine Kill Screen

The first five installments were Jake Elliott's game inspired by M83's "Intro"Santa Ragione's game inspired by Matthew Dear's "Street Song", former Cut Copy member Bennett Foddy's game inspired by Cut Copy's "Sun God", and Ivan Safrin's game inspired by Chromatics"Lady".

Today, Soundplay is proud to introduce Pachinko Pictures' "Take a Walk", inspired by the first single from Passion Pit's Gossamer.

Here's the developer's description of the game:

"The ship leaves in 40 million years. Will you make it in time? Evolve and escape Earth's gravity as you walk through an eclectic landscape of projections and shadows. Inspired by the first single from Passion Pit’s latest album Gossamer, 'Take a Walk' is a surreal journey through the undergrowth of our everyday world."

Play it here.

Pachinko Pictures is a boutique indie studio based in Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 2010 by Bafta-award winning British expats Ian Gouldstone and David Surman, the studio lovingly crafts games and animation. Over the past decade Gouldstone and Surman have established a name in indie games culture, having a hand in the curation and organization of major festivals and events, including GameCity, Freeplay, and most recently the Game Masters exhibition at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.

In late summer, Pitchfork and Kill Screen will host a two-day "game jam" in New York, where independent developers will have two days to collectively build a game inspired by a piece of music. The game will later be published to the Soundplay website. Pitchfork.tv will film the event.

Thanks to Soundplay's sponsor, Intel.
