Animal Collective to Premiere Centipede Hz on Animal Collective Radio Next Week

Animal Collective: "Today's Supernatural' (via YouTube)

Avey Tare confirmed on last night's broadcast of Animal Collective Radio that Animal Collective will be premiering their forthcoming album, Centipede Hz, in its entirety on next week's show. The album is out September 4 in the U.S. and September 3 in the UK through Domino. Check the tracklist here.

Avey also debuted three new solo songs: "Excaliber" with Angel Deradoorian (who is presently on hiatus from Dirty Projectors), "Mr. Funny Man" with the Deradoorian Sisters, and "Bobby's Loop". The program's full tracklist can be found here.

Centipede Hz will mark Animal Collective's sixth full-length, and is the proper follow-up to their landmark Merriweather Post Pavillion, which took the #1 spot on Pitchfork's 2009 year-end albums list and readers' poll. Merriweather producer Ben Allen returned for the new album's sessions, as did longtime member Josh "Deakin" Dibb, who took a hiatus from the group following sessions for 2007's Strawberry Jam.

In an interview with Pitchfork in May, Avey Tare described Centipede Hz as being "a little bit rawer and more excitable" than Merriweather, and that "the pace and tempos on this one are a lot quicker. We just wanted to do a lot of jammers, and not a lot of ambient, spacey stuff... To us, Merriweather is a terrestrial record, where you're looking up into space or into the sky, contemplating all this stuff. Comparatively, Centipede Hz is up in space, on a spaceship-- but it's a lot more grounded in one location than off dreamily in the clouds." Read the full interview here.

As previously reported, select pre-orders of Centipede Hz will come packaged with a DVD containing footage from their July 2011 performance at Brooklyn's Prospect Park and a super high-resolution DVD audio version of the album.
